I found this really ugly tree or tree(s) one day while wondering around my usual haunts looking for subject matter.
Upon closer inspection, it was loaded with color and texture, and I liked the idea of cool light and warm shadows as a change of pace.

I added this detail because it gives you a better idea of what the real thing actually looks like. If you click on the image it will appear even larger.
The last image is a detail from another picture I'm working on. It is of moss growing on a dead tree.
I think you can tell a lot about someones techniques and thought processes by looking close up.

Some abstract paintings from Dan - cool! Really great texture in that tree bark and gash and I love how you manipulated the subtle values and temps of gray to achieve the depth.
ReplyDeleteI am so into moss growing on things! I always have to stop and look and maybe pet the moss when I'm out hiking, so of course I'm digging that painting. Plus, it always seems to come in those riotous shades of green.
What can I say, I've been reading about Pollack and de Kooning on blogs lately -- perhaps it was Casey's blog that explained abstract better -- he does have the ability to explain things in a way I can understand -- anyway I thought I would give it a shot.
ReplyDeleteI do love moss, and there's no shortage of it around here -- in every shade of green.
